AlWood Board of Education May 20, 2019

The AlWood Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, May 20, 2019, in the AlWood Junior/Senior High School Conference Room, Woodhull, Illinois. The meeting was called to order at 7:02 P.M. by President Brown with the following in attendance: Althaus, Barton, Brown, Francis, Hand, and Kenney; Superintendent Shannon Bumann, Elementary Principal Reggie Larson, and Junior/Senior HS Princiapl Ben Rees. Link was absent.

Also in attendance were visitors, Tabitha Bennink, Andrea Bolduc, and Sherri Taylor.

Barton moved, Kenney seconded to approve the Consent Agenda (minutes, bills, treasurer’s report, and elementary & high school activity reports) as presented. Passed 6 - 0 roll call vote. Voting aye were Althaus, Barton, Brown, Francis, Hand, and Kenney. Nay – none. Link was absent.

Mr. Rees presented the junior/senior high school principal’s report. See attached.

Mr. Rees reported on a number of activities that have taken place, these include, National Honor Society induction ceremony, sixth grade visit to the junior high, prom, baccalaureate, high school honors assembly, and graduation.

Mr. Rees presented the junior/senior high school handbook changes for the 2019 – 2020 school year. Handbook changes will be on display for 30 days and will be approved at the June board of education meeting.

Mr. Larson presented the elementary principal’s report. See attached.

Mr. Larson noted theme night, “Under the Sea,” was well attended. He thanked the teachers and students for all of their hard work. Upcoming events at the elementary include the kindergarten thru third grade play day, sixth grade awards program, community cookout and fourth thru sixth grade kickball game.

Kenney moved, Barton seconded to approve the new elementary school activity fund account – PBIS Account (positive behavior). Passed 6 – 0 roll call vote. Voting aye were Althaus, Barton, Brown, Francis, Hand, and Kenney. Nay – none. Link was absent.

Mr. Bumann recommended a $0.25 increase to all meals in the school breakfast/lunch program beginning in the 2019 - 2020 school year.

Barton moved, Brown seconded to approve the increase of $0.25 to the breakfast and lunch prices for the 2019 – 2020 school year. Passed 6 – 0 roll call vote. Voting aye were Althaus, Barton, Brown, Francis, Hand, and Kenney. Nay – none. Link was absent.

Althaus moved, Hand seconded to approve the purchase of a 2018 John Deere lawn mower at the cost of $15,000 from Martin Sullivan of Galesburg. Passed 6 – 0 roll call vote. Voting aye were Althaus, Barton, Brown, Francis, Hand, and Kenney. Nay – none. Link was absent.

Hand moved, Barton seconded to set the Amended Budget Hearing for 7:05 P.M. on June 10, 2019, in the AlWood Junior/Senior High School Conference Room. Passed 6 – 0 roll call vote. Voting aye were Althaus, Barton, Brown, Francis, Hand, and Kenney. Nay – none. Link was absent.

Althaus moved, Hand seconded to appoint Farmers State Bank of Western Illinois as the school depository for 2019 – 2020. Passed 6 – 0 roll call vote. Voting aye were Althaus, Barton, Brown, Francis, Hand, and Kenney. Nay – none. Link was absent.

Althaus moved, Hand seconded to appoint Andrea Bolduc as the school treasurer for 2019 – 2020. Passed 6 – 0 roll call vote. Voting aye were Althaus, Barton, Brown, Francis, Hand, and Kenney. Nay – none. Link was absent.

Althaus moved, Kenney seconded to authorize Superintendent Bumann to seek bids for bread, fuel, milk and Inheritance Fund Interest. Bids are due in the Unit Office on Monday, June 10, 2019 at 12:00 Noon. Passed 6 – 0 roll call vote. Voting aye were Althaus, Barton, Brown, Francis, Hand, and Kenney. Nay – none. Link was absent.

Brown moved, Althaus seconded to approve the interfund transfer from the working cash fund to the transportation fund in the amount of $23,265. Passed 6 – 0 roll call vote. Voting aye were Althaus, Barton, Brown, Francis, Hand, and Kenney. Nay – none. Link was absent.

Althaus moved, Hand seconded to approve the interfund transfer from the working cash fund to the operations/management fund in the amount of $15,000. Passed 6 – 0 roll call vote. Voting aye were Althaus, Barton, Brown, Francis, Hand, and Kenney. Nay – none. Link was absent.

Althaus moved, Brown seconded to approve the bid from Hein Construction in the amount of $29,710 to replace the sidewalk at the AlWood Elementary School. Passed 6 – 0 roll call vote. Voting aye were Althaus, Barton, Brown, Francis, Hand, and Kenney. Nay – none. Link was absent.

Brown moved, Kenney seconded to approve the bid from Crawford’s Home Furnishings in the amount of $8,786 to replace the flooring in the preschool classroom at the AlWood Elementary School. Passed 6 – 0 roll call vote. Voting aye were Althaus, Barton, Brown, Francis, Hand, and Kenney. Nay – none. Link was absent.

Althaus moved, Brown seconded to approve the bid from Midwest Service Group for $24,050 for asbestos abatement at the AlWood Elementary School. Passed 6 – 0 roll call vote. Voting aye were Althaus, Barton, Brown, Francis, Hand, and Kenney. Nay – none. Link was absent.

Althaus moved, Francis seconded to approve the BHASED life/safety amendment as presented (1.51% of bid estimate). Passed 6 – 0 roll call vote. Voting aye were Althaus, Barton, Brown, Francis, Hand, and Kenney. Nay – none. Link was absent.

Hand moved, Barton seconded to go to Executive Session at 7:35 P.M. regarding appointment, employment, and resignation/retirement of personnel. Passed 6 – 0 roll call vote. Voting aye were Althaus, Barton, Brown, Francis, Hand, and Kenney. Nay – none. Link was absent.

Althaus moved, Barton seconded to return to Regular Session at 8:10 P.M. Passed 6 – 0 roll call vote. Voting aye were Althaus, Barton, Brown, Francis, Hand, and Kenney. Nay – none. Link was absent.
