Old Business:

Committee Reports and Updates:

> The commission will continue to identify projects for KMB. Rodd will email the Goals/Objectives updated worksheets, the KMB mission statement and our KMB materials which were submitted to Keep America Beautiful to the KMB commission members so that we will have information at-the-ready when grants become available.

 City Update: Greg reported that the City will begin its leaf pickup program on Oct. 14th. Greg explained about the huge City undertaking to deal with 580 dead ash trees due to emerald ash borer disease. The City has been focusing on removal of trees overhanging City playgrounds. The undertaking is very costly due to the size of these trees and the structural weakness damage that they have sustained from the borer disease.

 Blue Can Group: Several nominations for Moline Recycle Superhero awards were discussed. The award will be announced and presented at the Council of the Whole meeting in November.

 Garden Guardians: Mary reported that it was not a good year for the Garden Guardian program, due to the flooding and effects of the flooding on the gardens. We have several gardens needing adoption and Mary asked if the City could make yard signs to post in the vacant gardens, advertising “Garden Available for Adoption” with an email address or phone number of how to volunteer.

 Xstream Cleanup: Kristen reported that the City and KMB partnered with Sierra Club to conduct a cleanup along a mile of the Butterworth Parkway in September, and the volunteers got much of the area cleaned before and during a downpour that cut the event short.

New Business:

 Kristen reminded the Commission that it will be the 50th anniversary of Earth Day in April 2020. She suggested that the Commission start thinking of ways KMB can participate in the week-long series of events occurring all over the Quad Cities.

 Mary will try to find canna bulbs to give to the Bluffs Neighborhood Partnership.

 Greg will ask Rodd to remind Mayor Acri to appoint a new City Council liaison to the Keep Moline Beautiful Commission to replace Lori Turner.

A motion was made to adjourn the meeting at 5:05pm. Motion seconded and passed.

Next meeting will be at 4:30pm, Thursday, November 14th, 2019 at the Moline Municipal Services Building.
