City of Colona Public Safety Committee met Nov. 18.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

Roll Call

Present: Alderman Mike King, Alderman Deb Shady-Dahl, Chief Mike Swemline. Also present Laura LaMantia.

Absent: Alderman Tristan Tapscott

Old Business

Chief advised the city is owed approximately $30,000.00 in uncollected city ordinance fines. Chief has discussed the need for advancement on the collection process with the city attorney and will continue to follow up on this.

Chief advised the city is getting quotes on a sprinkler system and alarm system that is mandated for the animal shelter by new state law. Chief is looking to go with the cheapest option to be in compliance whether it be the sprinkler or the alarm.

Chief reminded the committee he will be out of town for his last week of training December 9-13.

New Business

Chief advised that Officer Hanks has resigned as full time from the department but will stay on part time. The committee is in favor of replacing this opening as soon as possible. Chief advised he has reserved a spot in the academy for March 21st the first opening available.

Motion to adjourn made by Alderman King and seconded by Alderman Shady Dahl. Motion passed, meeting adjourned at 9:20 a.m.
