City of Rock Island Arts Advisory Committee met Dec. 11.

Call to Order and Roll Call
Temporary Chair Carolyn Krueger called the meeting to order at 4:10 PM and read the roll call.
Public Comment
There were no members of the public in attendance.
Approval of the Agenda
Amber Williams moved to approve the December 11th agenda. Joedy Cook seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously on a vote of 5 to 0.
Approval of the Previous Meeting
Minutes Joedy Cook moved to approve the minutes for November 13th, 2019. Amber Williams seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously on a vote of 5 to 0.
Old Business
Kathy Douglass congratulated Pat Stolley on his official appointment by Mayor Thoms to the Arts Commission.
New Business
Discussion on “Artspace” areas
Tarah Sipes, City of Rock Island Economic Development Manager, was introduced to the commission by Kathy Douglass. A discussion followed about whether or not there was space in downtown Rock Island for additional artist studios. Tarah Sipes explained that there is available building space in downtown. Unfortunately, price for the space may not be affordable for artists. She also asked for information about what features an artist studio would require. The commissioners provided some details.
Other Business
Carolyn Krueger announced that MidCoast Fine Arts and The ARTery were struggling financially due to an increase in rent and clean-up costs incurred by MidCoast Fine Arts due to the 2019 flood.

Temporary Chair Carolyn Krueger asked for a motion to adjourn. Joedy Cook moved to adjourn. Jodie Kavensky seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously on a vote of 5 to 0 at 4:45 PM.
