AUGUSTANA COLLEGE BOARD OF TRUSTEES: Choir, band and Jenny Lind ensembles set to tour

Two

Augustana College Board of Trustees recently issued the following announcement.

Three Augustana College ensembles will go on road this spring in the Midwest, East Coast and Japan.

The Jenny Lind Vocal Ensemble will perform in the Milwaukee and Chicago area March 6-8. The group is a select women's ensemble for singers who wish to develop advanced choral skills, conducted by Michael Zemek.

The ensemble is named after Jenny Lind (1820-1887), a Swedish opera singer often known as the "Swedish Nightingale" and considered the finest coloratura of her day.

The Augustana Choir will tour March 21-27 with stops in Newton, Mass., Allentown, Pa., Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and New York City.

Established in 1931, the Augustana Choir has been conducted by Dr. Jon Hurty since 1996.

The Augustana Symphonic Band will perform in Tokyo, Nagoya and Hamamatsu, Japan, May 25-June 5.

The Symphonic Band is the college’s oldest ensemble, established in 1874 as the Silver Cornet Band. The band is composed of more than 60 student musicians with academic majors across the liberal arts.

The ensemble performs music written for the wind band. It is conducted by Dr. James Lambrecht.

The band tours on a three-year rotation to the Midwest, another region in the United States and overseas.
