Old Business

Officer Davilla will return to the police academy to resume training on June 28th and is scheduled to graduate on July 11 with a virtual graduation. Officer Davilas training was interrupted by Corona virus during which time he returned home and did online training and some field training at the police department.

Chief advised that a previous grievance filed regarding time off during Corona virus had been dropped.

Chief reminded the committee that he had askes Public works director about replacing some windows and a door at the PD due to deterioration.

Chief also advised the flooring at the PD was in bad shape in the main booking and office areas. He advised a solid flooring surface was necessary due to the carpet becoming extremely soiled and in poor shape.

New Business

Chief advised that our Community Service Officers last day was June 19th she left to take a police officer position. The new community service officer Kelsey Olson has started on todays date June 22,2020.

Chief advised that he would like to move forward with the hiring of a full time officer due to man power shortages and overtime anticipated. We are currently down 20% of our full time staffing and our part time investigator has left to take the Chiefs position in Hampton. We have numerous investigation cases that are sitting idle. The City is doing our community a dis-service by not having a full time investigator. If a full time investigator is not hired our budget will fall $38,000 short as the new position will bring back a float car and the investigator will assume more responsibilities therefore cutting overtime.

The Investigator position is currently not filled and will not be until a new full time officer is added to the roster then an Officer will be assigned to Investigations.

The full time position has already been approved and budgeted however it was put on hold due to Corona virus and budget issues. He has a slot reserved at the academy for August and would like to move forward. Chief accepted lateral applications however no viable applications were turned in.

Alderman Tapscott made a motion to adjourn, Alderman Shady-Dahl seconded, the meeting was adjourned at 9:40 a.m.
