City of Rock Island Beautification Commission met Aug. 24.

Call to Order and Roll Call

Chair Bob Towler called the meeting to order at 5:00 PM and read the roll call. Public Comment

There were no members of the public in attendance.

Approval of the Agenda

Sue McDevitt moved to approve the agenda for August 24, 2020. Wanda Lambert seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously on a vote of 7 to 0.

Approval of the Previous Meeting Minutes

Sue McDevitt moved to approve the minutes for July 13, 2020. Lloyd Davis, Sr. seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously on a vote of 7 to 0.

New Business

The commission asked Kathy Douglass to email the photo slideshow of nominees for the July Yard of the Month award because many of the commissioners did not have visual access to the meeting. The commissioner agreed to email their votes back to Kathy.

The commission members that had visual access, viewed a photo slideshow of nominees for 2020 Tell On Your Neighbor awards. Kathy explained that one property was nominated for the effort the homeowner did in improving the siding, porch, fencing, and landscaping in the back. The neighbor that nominated this property explained that the home looked very bad previously. She was unable to take a photo of the landscaping in the back yard. Roy Plasschaert moved to award all the nominated 2020 Tell On Your Neighbor properties a certificate. Sue McDevitt seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously on a vote of 7 to 0. The three commissioners that did not have visual access voted approval based on descriptive information the other commissioner provided.

Other Business

Bob Towler asked the commission members look for Commercial Beautification nominees now for the awards this fall.

Chair Bob Towler asked for a motion to adjourn. Sue McDevitt moved to adjourn. Wanda Lambert seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously on a vote of 7 to 0 at 6:10 PM.
