Earlier this summer, former Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan was sentenced to over seven years in federal prison due to his involvement in a statehouse corruption scandal. Recently, federal prosecutors have sought a nearly six-year sentence for Michael McClain, a former statehouse lobbyist and close confidant of Madigan. McClain was convicted as part of the ComEd conspiracy involving payments exceeding $1 million to five Madigan allies. His sentencing is scheduled for July 24, with other figures involved in the case facing sentencing later this summer. McClain's attorneys are seeking probation.

In legislative matters, Illinois State Representative Dan Swanson has expressed concern about potential tax increases following the state's budget adjustments that raised taxes by almost $1 billion. One such proposal is the $1.50 delivery tax on businesses that was discussed but not included in the final budget package. The "Retail Delivery Climate Impact Fee Act" would impose a fee on each retail delivery within Illinois starting January 1 if it includes any item subject to sales tax.
