Annawan Community Unit School District 226 Board Met Feb. 17.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

THE REGULAR MEETING of the Board of Education of Annawan Unit District No 226 was held at 6:00PM. President Shaw called the meeting to order. On roll call those present were Jerad Heitzler, Kim Park, Dwaine Shaw Jr, Brian Childs, Liz Wied, Ted VanHyfte. Absent was Jeff Gerber. Others present were; Superintendent Matt Nordstrom, Principal, Lana Wolf, Erin VanUnnik, Brenda Smith, AEA representative, and Matt Huber, AD.

CONSENT AGENDA – Moved by Heitzler and seconded by Childs to approve Consent Agenda. Voting YES were Heitzler, Park, Shaw, Childs, VanHyfte, Wied. 6-0 Motion carried. • January 2021 Regular Board Meeting Minutes.

AUDIENCE TO VISITORS AND OTHER COMMUNICATIONS

SUPERINTENDENT COMMUNICATIONS—Matt Nordstrom

• Mrs. Heitzler is doing supervision/attending JH basketball game at United and will not be at the meeting.

• 2nd semester has continued to run smoothly, no COVID, e-learning days are being utilized due to winter weather.

• Thank you to maintenance crew and bus drivers for handling the winter weather. 

• Thankful for a safe return to sports.

• State budget will have level funding for school districts.

ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL- Dawn Heitzler

• Attendance continues to be great in 2nd semester.

• 5 Essentials Survey will be completed the first week of March.

HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL/LEAD TEACHER-Matt Nordstrom/Lana Wolf 

• FFA Week – February 20 – 27th

• The State of IL will be applying for a waiver on testing once available through the Federal Government. More information to come once available.

ATHLETIC DIRECTOR –MATT HUBER

• Jim Frankenreider will be inducted into the Illinois High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame Class of 2021.

• Dates for Spring/Summer sports are available, changes may still occur. 

• Thank you to Dan Hakes and the students who have been videoing games. They have done an excellent job.

SPECIAL EDUCATION COMMITTEE

BUILDING COMMITTEE

• Letter received in regards to the sidewalk, more discussion to follow.

• Snow has been removed to allow the ground to harden for light installation on football field, anticipated start date of Feb. 22nd.

• Jacob Specht, with Specht Construction has been assisting with the sidewalk buckling in front of the Grade School doors.

Approve postponing the JH football season until Fall 2021: Motion made by Heitzler and seconded by VanHyfte to approve postponing the JH football season until Fall 2021. Call vote, motion carried.

Approve the Quad Cities CTE Consortium Amendment: Motion made by Park and seconded by VanHyfte to approved the Quad Cities CTE Consortium Amendent. Call vote, motion carried.

Approve Gorenz & Associates as District Auditor: Motion made by Heitzler and seconded by Wied to approve Gorenz & Associates as the District Auditor for FY21. Voting YES were Park, Shaw, VanHyfte, Wied, Childs, Heitzler. 6-0 Motion carried.

Approve 2nd Reading of Board Policies: Motion made by Heitzler and seconded by Park to approve the 2nd reading of board policies as presented. Call vote, motion carried.

Approve Coaching Hire: Motion made by VanHyfte and seconded by Childs to approve Whitney Walker as the 6th/7th grade volleyball coach. Call vote, motion carried.

Other items to be considered at next meeting:

Closed Session: Motion made by Heitzler and seconded by Park to move to closed session at 7:05 PM. Call vote, motion carried.

Motion made by Heitzler and seconded by VanHyfte to move out of closed session at 7:45 PM. Call vote, motion carried.

Approve Superintendent Evaluation: Motion made by Heitzler and seconded by Childs to approve Superintendent Evaluation. Call vote, motion carried.

Adjournment- 7:50 PM- Moved by Heitzler and seconded by VanHyfte to adjourn. Call vote, motion carried.
