State Rep. Tony McCombie (R-Savanna) objected to House Bill 1091, also known as the “Fix the FOID Act.”
She briefly stated her concerns during a House debate on the bill.
“This is not about public health,” McCombie said. “It’s not about public safety. This is just another gun grab in Illinois. Please vote no.”
The bill would require background checks on all gun sales. This includes transfers between family members.
It would also compel “that an applicant for the issuance or renewal of a Firearm Owner's Identification Card shall include a full set of his or her fingerprints in electronic format to the Illinois State Police, unless the applicant has previously provided a full set of his or her fingerprints to the Illinois State Police under the Act or the Firearm Concealed Carry Act.”
The bill, which would also increase the FOID card renewal fee from $10 for 10 years to $20 for 5 years, passed the House with a 60-50 vote.
