Committee Reports

Blue Can Group – no report

QC Earth Coalition – no report

Downtown Events

Planning for the upcoming season/year activities. Optimistic about potential capital improvement projects that could happen this year. These would include public restrooms at Bass Street Landing and adding more parklets downtown.

City Update

Snow removal services are going very well. City Council authorized and additional six (6) employees for Municipal Services and this has allowed us to put trucks/plows immediately into residential areas at the onset of snow events. Previously, trucks/plows didn’t make it into these areas until much later.

X-Stream Cleanup

Sierra Club organized a cleanup which Greg Swanson participated in.

Greg would like to see KMB assess Moline’s main thoroughfares for litter and possible cleanups.

Garden Guardians

Mary Lind is sending out the garden applications in March with a due date in May. Most of the current participants are expected to return but there will be a few gardens available.

Repairs on the kiosk at 41st Street need to be checked. Rodd and Greg are working with the City’s GIS Administrator Todd Green on a map to be posted in the kiosk.

School Outreach – no report

Events – 2022 dates need to be updated on next month’s agenda.

New Business

Required Training

Board members need to complete online training related to the Open Meetings Act. Rodd will be sending out the link to the training and instructions on what is needed.

Other

Rodd Schick is working on a report that was requested by the Mayor that has the Commission’s plans/goals for the coming year. Items that will be included are painting the shelters on Ben Butterworth Parkway, KMB Super Hero Award, Garden Guardian events, Water Plant tour and landfill tour.

She was going to get the internet link to the video to Rodd and Rodd will distribute out to everyone.

Kristen Bergren reported that the Environmental Film Series has a film showing on January 23rd at the Figge. Seating is limited but there is a virtual option. The film is “Picture of His Life” and features world renown wildlife photographer Amos Nachoum. Tickets for both seating and virtual viewing are available on River Action’s website.
