Rep. Tony McCombie announced the winners of the Service Above Self Award and congratulates them.

In an Aug. 24 Facebook post, McCombie congratulated David and Kay Engaldo for earning the Service Above Self Award.

“Congratulations to David & Kay Engaldo for earning the Service Above Self Award!" McCombie said. "You have done so much for our community and hearing it all listed on paper gave me goosebumps! Thank you! #serviceaboveself #rotarians #volunteer"

Tony McCombie was elected to represent the individuals living in the 71st District in 2016. She is a lifelong resident of Savanna, Ill., and earned a Bachelor of Arts from Western Illinois University. She owns and operates Blue Appraisals and is a real estate broker with MelFoster Company. Her previous political experience includes time as the mayor of Savanna, Ill., and as a councilor on the Savanna City Council.

McCombie has stayed busy this summer. "Quick two days in Springfield visiting the Illinois State Fair, seeing colleagues, meeting new republican county chairs and candidates, fundraising and getting very excited for the general election on November 8th!" she said in the post. "We have a real opportunity to bring balance to Illinois with your involvement and support at the polls! Let's GO!! PS... yes I also had to stop at Boone's for Fish Tacos and Saputos for all things garlic!" McCombie also spent some time at the Whiteside County Fair on Aug. 18.

She has also spoken out about the misuse of SNAP funds in a Facebook post.

"Many years ago I was questioned by a new clerk using my mother's 'SNAP' card to buy her Ensure... she was only able to eat through a feeding tube at that point... luckily I shopped local and the owner knew me and quickly remedied the situation but today there is little to question and grocery clerks around the district do talk to me about fraud!" McCombie said. "They feel guilty doing so because they want people to be helped but know this program has gotten too big to avoid the misuse! Misuse that will hurt those that need it the most!
