The Moline City Council recently celebrated a promotion within the city's police department.

During a Nov. 1 city council meeting, the council celebrated the promotion of a city police officer. Officer Jonathan Genisio worked with the Illinois Department of Corrections before he joined the Moline Police Department on Sept. 11, 2007. He has held many positions within the department in the 15 years he has worked there, including undercover street detective and a K9 handler.

Genisio was promoted to the rank of sergeant back in 2016 and was also serving as the afternoon shift patrol supervisor prior to his appointment to the rank of lieutenant. He is also a team leader on the crisis containment unit and is also a member of the sniper team after completing the FBI training.

Genisio is also a veteran of the U.S. National Guard and has served almost 30 years. He has both his bachelor’s and master’s degree from Western Illinois University and the University of Texas El Paso. He was joined at the city council meeting by his wife and two young children, his parents and his sister who is also an officer with the Moline Police Department.

"Lt. Geneseo not only served his community here in Moline as a dedicated police officer, but he has also served his country for over two decades. Lt. Geneseo has been in the United States military for over 27 years and is currently serving as the Command Sergeant Major of the 44th Chemical Battalion, Illinois National Guard," Moline Chief of Police Darren Gault said at the meeting.
