Rock Island County residents paid 15th-largest sum in sales taxes in Illinois during September

Rock Island County taxpayers paid the 15th largest sum in sales taxes in September, according to Illinois tax records.

In total, Rock Island County residents paid $1.8 million in sales taxes during September.

Rock Island County also ranked 15th in the Prairie State the month before, with $1.8 million spent in sales taxes.

The County School Facility Tax accounted for the largest share of sales taxes paid by Rock Island County residents in September.

Illinois is currently the highest taxed state in the US. A study from Wallet Hub found Illinois taxes are 39.83% higher than the national average.

Illinois governor J. B. Pritzker is accused of adding more than $5.2 billion in new or higher taxes since coming into power in early 2019. As a business owner, he has a fortune of more than $3 billion, largely based on his family's wealth and connections.
