City of Moline Special Events Committee met March 7.

Agenda Items

1. Approval of February 28, 2024 Meeting Minutes

Motion to approve by Jewell, seconded by Soliz. Motion carried unanimously.

2. Consideration of a Special Event Application for the Cornbelt Running Club to utilize 17th Street from Bass Street Landing to River Drive, River Drive between 17th Street and 1st Street and 1st Street between River Drive and 1st Avenue. The route also includes the use of the Great River Trail to return to Bass Street Landing. The Quad Cities Distance Classic Half Marathon & 5K event is scheduled to be held Sunday, May 12, 2024 from 6:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (this includes set-up and clean-up time). Supporting information and special consideration requests are details in the Special Event Application. Discussion. Motion to approve by Cullison, seconded by Jewell. Motion carried unanimously.

3. Consideration of a Special Event Application for the Alzheimer’s Association to utilize River Drive from the Vibrant Arena parking lot and 1st Street. The route also includes the use of the Great River Trail to return to the Vibrant Arena parking lot. The Walk to End Alzheimer’s event is scheduled to be held Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 5:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (this includes set-up and clean-up time). Supporting information and special consideration requests are details in the Special Event Application. Discussion. Motion to approve by Soliz, seconded by Cullison. Motion carried unanimously.

Other Business

1. Worldwide Food Truck Tour Update (July 20, 2024)

Discussion. McManus shared the event date changed to July 20, 2024 and that the event may not be requesting $20,000 from the City of Moline as indicated in the application. Concern shared that staff unable to locate information on prior events. McManus to contact event coordinator to discuss modification of event space to allow parking for businesses and residents. Jewell shared the event will require JULIE locates. Roby shared the event will require $5M in commercial liability insurance due to the high-risk activities. Motion to approve with the recommended changes by Soliz, seconded by Cullison. Motion carried unanimously.

2. Mercado on Fifth Update (May 24, 2024 – September 27, 2024)

McManus shared updated event dates. Further discussion on road closures and traffic routes will follow upcoming meetings with event coordinators.
