City of Geneseo City Council met March 12.

Here is the agenda provided by the council:

The Regular Council of the City of Geneseo was called to order on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at 6:00 PM, in the Council Chambers, with the following members present:  

COUNCIL PRESENT: Council Brett Barnhart, Council Craig Arnold, Mayor Sean Johnson, Council Martin Rothschild, Alderman Kent Swanson, Council Keith Kennett, and Alderman James Roodhouse  

COUNCIL ABSENT: Council Bob James, and Council Paula Simosky  

STAFF PRESENT: Director of Finance Jamie Matthews, City Administrator Brandon Maeglin, Director of IT Garrett Griswold, Attorney Derke Price, Deputy Chief of Police Kondon Karzin, Chief of Police Casey Disterhoft, Director of Public Works Chad VandeWoestyne, Building Inspector Rick Mills, Director of Electrical Operations Eric Rowold, and City Clerk Paige Seibel  

PUBLIC PRESENT:

Meeting began at 6:00 PM

4 Chamber of Commerce Report 

Chamber Director Sullivan the Chamber Report.

Chamber Director Sullivan thanked the City for the invitation to the 1st raising of the Flag Ceremony.

5 ENGINEERING REPORT 

Tyler Sand with IMEG gave the Engineering Report.

5.1. March Report 

6 Public Comment - Agenda Items 

City Ordinance allows members of the Public to speak and give input up to 3 minutes during Public Comment, there can be no debate or action by the City Council at this time.

None

7 Mayor's Comments 

None

8 City Council Comments 

Councilman Rothschild spoke about the WQAD segment that spoke on Humane Society, adding it was a great representation of our Humane Society and City.

9 City Administrator's Comments 

- Cemetery Cleanup - 03/15 - 03/31

- Burn Pile Opens 04/05

- Spring Cleanup 05/06 - 05/09

- Alderman for a Day - Pushing to May

- First Raising of the Flag - Thank You

City Administrator Maeglin asked that items around gravesites be cleaned up, adding things that are not permanently attached to monuments will be removed.

Alderman for a Day will be moving to May in hopes to have more students participate with help from Councilman Roodhouse and Kennett.

City Administrator Maeglin thanked the Financial Sponsors including Miller Foundation, Springfield Armory, Daughter's of the American Revolution for contributing the funds for the landing area. He also thanked everyone who attended the ceremony.

10 Finance Director Comments 

10.1. Treasurer's Report and Capital Asset Reports as Submitted. 

Finance Director Matthews gave the Treasurer's, Budget Book, and Capital Assets Report.

Director of Electrical Operations Rowold gave the Electric Summary Report. A Q&A took place between Councilman Rothschild and Director Rowold.

Public Works Director VanDeWoestyne gave the Public Works Summary Report. A Q&A took place between Mayor Johnson and Director VanDeWoestyne.

Brett Barnhart moved, seconded by Craig Arnold, Motion to approve the Treasurer's Report and Capital Asset Reports as submitted. 

RESULT: Carried

Craig Arnold moved, seconded by James Roodhouse, Motion to approve using the omnibus method and to approve items 11.1 - 11.5

A Q&A took place between Councilman Barnhart, Public Works Director VanDeWoestyne, and City Inspector Mills about home inspections.

A Q&A took place between Councilman Arnold and Maeglin about the Boulder for the Landing Area on Oakwood.
