Travis Weaver, candidate for Illinois State House District 93, recently spoke about the importance of job training programs. "Citizens routinely reach out to my office searching for programs that can help them get the training they need to provide for their family and live a prosperous life," said Weaver. The incumbent representative further added, "Despite shocking last-minute opposition to increase transparency in our job training programs, I held my ground in advocating for this measure and was honored to pass the bill with 70 out of 118 votes."

"My top 4 bipartisan legislative priorities are education, job growth, fiscal responsibility, and agriculture," said Weaver, State Representative, according to Facebook. "Job training plays a key role in two of those priorities. Despite shocking last-minute opposition to increase transparency in our job training programs, I held my ground in advocating for this measure and was honored to pass the bill with 70 out of 118 votes. Citizens routinely reach out to my office searching for programs that can help them get the training they need to provide for their family and live a prosperous life."

In a recent Facebook post, Weaver shared a link to his closing remarks on Senate Bill 2907 made on May 22. According to him, "This is a good bill that’s going to help people in the state of Illinois get the job training that they need. Our constituents call our offices wanting to have a more prosperous future and they don’t know what programs are available for them to take advantage of. This bill helps them take advantage of their programs. Furthermore, I wanted to pass the original version of this bill that focused on demographics and outcomes and I was told that until the DCO opposition was removed, it was not going to get called into committee, so it’s up to you guys."

Senate Bill 2907 establishes the Job Training and Workforce Development Transparency Act. It "provides that within 18 months after the effective date of this Act, the Department of Commerce and Economic Development coordinate with relevant state agencies, shall compile a report concerning all state and federally funded job training and workforce development programs in the state." The bill has an immediate effective date.

Senate Bill 2907 was first introduced by Sen. Dave Syverson on Jan. 26, 2024, and passed the Senate on April 11, 2024. It arrived in the House that day where Weaver became its chief sponsor. It successfully passed both houses on May 24, 2024, as reported by the Illinois General Assembly webpage dedicated to the bill.

Weaver further emphasized the significance of the bill in his House remarks. "This is a good bill that takes advantage of Illinois’ job training programs, if you want to vote no on that, if you don’t want to support Illinois’ job training programs; if you don’t want to help people be more prosperous; if you don’t want to help people provide for their families, by all means, vote no. If you want to have a first step towards a bill that is good for Illinois constituents, I urge a favorable vote. Don’t play games. Let’s give people a better life in Illinois," he said.

Born and raised in Peoria County, Weaver holds a bachelor’s degree in finance and marketing from the University of Alabama and an MBA from Northern University. Outside of his duties at the Illinois General Assembly, he tutors GED students and serves as a substitute teacher, according to his official biography.
