City of Moline Historic Preservation Commission met May 31.

1. Call to Order/Roll Call

At 1:00 p.m. the meeting was called to order by Chair Potter.

2. Speakers & Guests:

Mayor Sangeetha Rayapati

Heather Calvert – Deere-Wiman Staff

Craig Mack – Former W. Butterworth Foundation Board of Directors & Former Historic Preservation Commissioner

Matt Sivertsen – William Butterworth Foundation Board of Directors

Alderpersons Timion, Alderperson Murphy, Butterworth Center & Deere-Wiman House Staff, Community Members, and William Butterworth Foundation Board of Directors were in attendance with approximately 30+ guests total.

3. Remarks by Commission Chairman & Mayor

Chair Potter opened the special meeting by welcoming guests. Mayor Rayapati gave a speech on the significance of the Deere-Wiman House and local history.

4. Remarks by William Butterworth Foundation Members

Heather Calvert gave a brief background on the decision to landmark the Deere Wiman House. She stated it is an honor to have the Deere-Wiman House made a Moline Historic Landmark. Ms. Calvert introduced Craig Mack, who used to be on the Board of Directors and had a big influence on the Deere-Wiman House being landmarked. He also used to be on the Moline Historic Preservation Commission. Mr. Mack thanked Commissioner Sandberg and Diane Moore, Moline Preservation Society, for their strong support of the Deere-Wiman House. He also thanked others such as Jan Stoffer, Gretchen Small, and Heather Calvert. Mr. Mack would like to see the Butterworth Center and John Deere House also landmarked in the future.

5. Presentation of the Plaque

Matt Siversten revealed the Moline Historic Landmark plaque. Mr. Siversten thanked everyone for their continued efforts for the Butterworth Center and Deere-Wiman House organization.

6. Adjournment

Motion made by Commissioner Sandberg, seconded by Commissioner Adamson to adjourn the Special Meeting at 1:10 p.m. Motion carried unanimously. Refreshments were served and guests continued to tour the building and visit with one another.
