Free tick awareness signs and posters are now being distributed to parks throughout Illinois. This initiative is a collaboration between the Illinois Lyme Association, the Illinois Department of Public Health, and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. The goal is to help educate visitors about tick prevention and safety.

Swanson, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State House in 2023 to represent the state's 71st House District, replacing previous state representative Donald L. Moffitt.
