A food and hygiene supply drive is being organized to assist furloughed Arsenal employees as well as other displaced government and essential workers. The event is a collaboration between the American Federation of Government Employees and the Quad City Federation of Labor.

Monetary donations can be made online through the River Bend Food Bank, which notes that “Because they can purchase items in bulk, your dollars go further. Just $1 provides 5 meals for local families.” Donations can be made at riverbendfoodbank.org/donate.

Beginning Wednesday, November 12, physical donations can be dropped off at two locations. The BridgePoint Building at 1 Montgomery Court in Moline, Illinois will accept donations on Wednesdays from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The River Bend Food Bank at 4010 Kimmel Drive in Davenport, Iowa will accept drop-offs on Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Distribution of supplies will take place at SouthPark Mall near Von Maur at 4500 16th Street in Moline, Illinois on Tuesdays from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The organizers are requesting specific hygiene items such as diapers (all sizes), pull ups (all sizes), baby wipes, bar soap, baby shampoo or wash, regular shampoo and conditioner, body wash, toothbrushes and toothpaste for both adults and children, dental floss, deodorant, tampons and feminine napkins, formula, bleach, toilet paper, paper towels, laundry detergent, disinfecting wipes, and all-purpose cleaner.

Requested food items include canned fruit and meats (including tuna), peanut butter, soups, stews, and chili. Unopened shelf-stable food past its “best by” date is accepted; however prepared foods or any opened or damaged packages are not allowed. Items with pop-top lids are preferred for those who may not have access to a can opener.
