The City of Moline Committee of the Whole met Tuesday at Moline City Hall to vote on a $103,000 design contract with Shive-Hattery Inc. for water, sanitary sewer and storm sewer work associated with a proposed multi-modal transportation station.
The design contract covers work between Fourth Avenue and 12th Street, including new utility installations, sidewalk replacement and traffic signal adjustments.
The committee voted on extending a five-year lease to Verizon to erect telecommunications equipment on top of the water tower on 17th Avenue. The company would have the option to renew the lease up to three times. The first year of each cycle of the lease will earn the city $14,400, with a three percent increase each year from the second through fifth years.
The committee also voted on a resolution opening city parking lots to event parking for events held at the iWireless Center to help increase revenue for the center, which the city maintains.
In hopes of attracting more development and encouraging small business, the city considered a program for offering discounted building fees to nonprofit organizations and other businesses that help expand local business, beautify the city, create a vibrant downtown or accomplish any of the city's other current goals. After studying the proposal, city officials recommended against the plan, unless the city council comes up with ways to offset the loss in revenue, which official calculated would cost the city $263,500 each year.
