Rock Island will meet to consider Augustana College's Greenbush plan.
The Rock Island City Council welcomed a presentation from Augustana College officials on a student-developed neighborhood plan for the Greenbush neighborhood during a study session on Feb. 15.
Alyssa Clarida and Clarissa Montbriand reviewed the plan and its process with council members. The school first reached out to the city early last year looking for a hands-on planning activity the school's urban planning students could help with. In the time since, Clarida and Montbriand have lead an effort that collected neighborhood data, developed a report on existing conditions, held community forums and gathered feedback from neighbors on Greenbush's strengths and weaknesses.
The report includes a list of those assets, potential development routes and priorities for moving forward, with an expectation that Greenbush's neighborhood association and residents would lead any development pursued. The plan also includes a draft timeline and cost estimates.
The Rock Island Planning Commission will take a closer look at the plan during a meeting in March, setting up the potential for adoption by the council in late March, if possible.
At a regular meeting following the study session, the board voted to increase the city's 2016 capital improvement fund by $340,784, which is the unspent amount leftover from 2015.
The board also approved a three-year contract with Genesis for on-site medical services for city staff beginning Tuesday.
Aldermen Joshua Schipp and P.J. Foley were absent.
