The Rock Island Planning Commission will meet tomorrow to discuss Augustana's Greenbush plans.

The Rock Island Planning Commission will review a development plan for the Greenbush neighborhood crafted by Augustana College planning students at its meeting tomorrow, March 2, at City Hall.

Augustana College representatives first contacted the city a year ago in search of a hands-on planning activity that the school's urban planning students could help carry out. Over the past year, Alyssa Clarida and Christian Montbriand have collected neighborhood data, developed a report on existing conditions, held community forums and gathered feedback from neighbors on Greenbush's strengths and weaknesses.

Their findings are collected in a single report that lists what they found to be assets, potential development routes and priorities for moving forward. The plan hinges on leadership from Greenbush's neighborhood association and residents, rather than expecting the city to enforce development plans on the neighborhood. The report also includes a draft timeline and cost estimates for the projects proposed.

If endorsed by the Rock Island Planning Commission, the plan would advance to the Rock Island City Council for further consideration and potential adoption.

The commission will also review a request from William Clay to rezone the property at 2033 and 2035 Ninth St. from R-3 residential to B-3 community business.

The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

Rock Island City Hall is located at 1528 Third Ave.
