Rock Island will close the intersection of Sixth Avenue and 22nd Street.
The City of Rock Island plans to temporarily close the intersection of Sixth Avenue and 22nd Street from Monday, March 7, to Friday, March 11, to accommodate ongoing water main work in the area.
The city has already closed Sixth Avenue and 23rd Street for the same water main project, which is part of a citywide effort to build a large diameter relief sewer. That intersection is expected to remain closed through March 18, at least.
The road through both intersections will reopen with temporary pavement that will be finished later in the spring, when weather warms up and dries it out.
Drivers should expect to follow signs for a detour around the construction using 24th Street.
