Independent candidate for Rock Island City Mayor Michael "Mike" Thoms took to social media recently to share former Mayor Mark Schwiebert's endorsement of his campaign.
"I am honored to announce that I have received the endorsement of former Rock Island Mayor Mark Schwiebert!" Thoms posted on his campaign page.
"Mike Thoms is a lifelong, loyal Rock Islander, who has helped our city grow both through his family business and his active support of community organizations," Schwiebert said. "I believe his commitment to creating a welcoming City Hall concerned for all its citizens, and his practical experience in building public-private partnerships across our community would best serve our common goal of making Rock Island an even better place to live, work and raise a family.”
Thoms brings 29 years of work experience to the table, beginning as a dockworker and working his way up to chief operations officer of the family business. After his retirement, he moved on to residential and commercial real estate development, including the Fyre Lake golf course and Minute Suites, which are sleeping rooms in airports. He has also served on the boards of several local nonprofits.
Thom will face off against nonpartisan candidates Terry Brooks, Andrew Rowe and Stephen Tollenaer in the mayoral race on April 4.
