Bustos feels many in 17th Congressional District not concerned about Trump-Russia probe, colleague says

Congress

Conservative political website thegatewaypundit.com recently posted an MSNBC "Morning Joe" interview with Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT), during which he says he and Rep. Cheri Bustos (D-IL) joke about the fact her Illinois constituents don't seem to care that the President Donald Trump is being investigated for possible collusion with Russia.

During the MSNBC interview, Himes is asked by Washington Post reporter Robert Costa why Democrats are not more focused on the issue of the Trump-Russia probe ahead of the midterm elections.

"The point is, if the Democratic Party does not get focused, and I am not sure we are doing this well ... if we don't get focused on kitchen table issues on the anxiety of American families, we are going to pay a cost at the polls," Himes said, according to the website.

Himes goes on to say that he and Bustos have "sort of a running joke" about the lack of concern over the Trump-Russia probe.

"Every Monday morning when I see Cheri and ... there's a little bit of laughter and she says 'You know what? My constituents are still not asking me about Russia,'" Himes said in the interview.

Bustos, a Moline Democrat, is running unopposed in the March 20 Democratic primary in the 17th Congressional District, which covers a swath of Northwest Illinois running roughly from Galena to Pekin.
