Rep. Tony McCombie (R-Moline) made sure Liam Wilcox received the honor he deserved.

McCombie took a moment to point out the 13-year-olds' act of valor during a House floor debate on March 6.

“I am humbled to be standing next to him today because he is such a thoughtful individual and I was moved by his story,” McCombie said of hearing about the young man on the news.

“Liam noticed a lot of flags tattered throughout his community, and he decided rather than watch that happen he was going to do something about it,” McCombie said. “So, he has started his own flag restoration project to replace those flags.”

To date, Wilcox has replaced 67 flags throughout McCombie’s district.

“Today I gave Liam a state flag that flew over our state capitol in his honor,” McCombie said, adding she also gave him two flags to donate to replace other tattered flags. “Liam, the House is very honored to have you today, and please keep up the good work and know you are making a difference.”
