City of Aledo Police and Personnel Committee met Jan. 16.

Here is the minutes provided by the Committee:

The Joint Ordinance & Police and Personnel Committee of the City of Aledo met in Open Session in the Council Chambers of the City Hall building on January 16, 2018. Chairmen MICHAEL CHAUSSE called the meeting to order at 5:47 P.M. The roll was called, whereupon the following committee members answered present:

Aldermen Ila Bertrand, Terry Bewley, Michael Chausse, Jay Doherty, Jim Holmes, and Chris Kopp. Mayor Chris Hagloch. Alderman Randy Slater was excused.

Also present were Erin Knackstedt, City Administrator, Chris Sullivan, Chief of Police, and Jarod Dale, City Clerk.

Approval of Minutes: Joint Ordinance & Police and Personnel Committee – January 3, 2018. Motion was made by ALD. Holmes and seconded by ALD. Doherty with one (1) noted correction to eliminate Ald. Kopp from the listing of members who reconvened in open session.

Old Business: No Report.

New Business: Accept the Retirement in Good Standing of Police Officer Gary Unsworth: CHIEF Sullivan reported Officer Unsworth has been in law enforcement for 24 years. The good standing is regarding the eligibility to have concealed carry in all 50 states per federal law after retirement.

Motion was made by ALD. Chausse and seconded by ALD. Bertrand to move the item to full Council for final approval. A Unanimous voice vote followed in agreement. Also, it was noted there will be a retirement party held for Officer Unsworth. Once finalized Council members will be notified.

Discussion on the Next Phase of the Aledo Police Department Police Officer Applicant Listing: CHIEF Sullivan reported the prior list from 2015 has been exhausted and the City will need to test again. Dates of testing TBD. CHIEF suggested a contract be made with all new hires to stay on the force a minimum of two (2) years or pay-back the training fees. Also, CHIEF requested the City consider a mileage requirement as well. Suggestions were heard to reside within Mercer Township.

ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business, motion was made by ALDERMAN KOPP and seconded by ALDERMAN BEWLEY that the meeting be adjourned. Unanimous voice vote followed in agreement. Meeting was adjourned at 6:00 P.M.
