Unitypoint Clinic - Geneseo recently issued the following announcement.

The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care given by nurses every day. UnityPoint Health - Trinity is proud to be a DAISY Award Partner, recognizing our nurses with this special honor every month. Congratulations to our January DAISY Award winners!

Breanna Sandman, RN

Bett - Med1

Breanna's nomination story: I was admitted with extremity fractures and an infection. Breanna was like an excellent orchestra maestro. She coordinated all the care I needed, checked in to make sure I was doing okay and kept the whole team working together so well. Breanna was friendly, helpful, and oh so efficient. She helped to manage the care I needed for the infection and made excellent suggestions to improve my care and comfort. An EXCELLENT MODEL for all nurses!

Kelly Lyons, RN

Bett - Surgical 3

Kelly's nomination story: After some routine testing I received some very serious health news that was devastating and required me to be admitted to the hospital. Being a longtime nurse myself, I was very uncomfortable having to now take on the role of being a patient. Kelly went above and beyond in taking care of both my emotional and physical needs. She was extremely professional yet made my stay as relaxed and fun as it could be. She encouraged me when I was at my lowest and made tests happen when others said it couldn’t be done. Because of Kelly, I was able to make it through one of the worst days of my life. She is what nursing is all about. She cared, and that made all the difference.

Matt Yungen, RN

Rock Island - 7th Floor

Matt's nomination story: I would like to let you know about a GREAT Nurse, Matt Yungen! He was always calm, caring and nice. He explained what the Doctor had planned for my care and even took the time to talk with my mother. This really helped in calming both of us down and easing our worries. Matt is a very caring and compassionate nurse. Thank you Matt!

Sherry Hummel, RN

Rock Island - 7th Floor

Sherry's nomination story: I recently received care at Trinity Hospital for multiple health issues and the most intense pain I have ever experienced. I was fortunate to have outstanding nurses, aides, techs and doctors. It took many of you to help ease the physical pain, even bringing me all the heat packs available on the floor. Along with the medical problems, I felt a lot of fear and anxiety and sometimes it was more than I could handle. At those times Sherry was the only one that got me through. I was not an easy patient, but she stayed with me through it all. Unfortunately, through my parents, family and friends, I have had much experience with healthcare. There have been many great nurses along the way, but Sherry OUT SHINED THEM ALL. Thank you doesn’t even begin to touch how grateful I am for the tremendous empathy, and compassion you gave me along with your excellent care. I am sure there are many patients who feel the same way I do, and that’s because we were all blessed to be in your care. With heartfelt and lasting gratitude for the nurse that you are!
