WKEI AM 1450 recently issued the following announcement.
Young people bring a fresh perspective to agriculture, and Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs encourages young photographers apply that view to agriculture for the Cream of the Crop Photo Contest.
“This is an opportunity for young people to go out amongst agriculture with their cameras and look at farming with a different eye,” Frerichs told FarmWeek.
The photography contest started March 19 and closes June 26. Photographers ages 8 to 18 may enter up to two images taken between July 1, 2018, and June 25, allowing photographers to showcase agriculture through the seasons. Acceptable images include rural and urban farm landscapes, farm equipment, livestock, farm buildings and specialty farms.
Photographers will compete in three age-based categories: ages 8-10, 11-14 and 15-18. Photographs must be submitted electronically.
Winning photographs will be featured in the Ag Invest calendar, Frerichs said. Ag Invest is the treasurer’s link-deposit program that offers low interest loans to farmers and agribusinesses.
Winning photos will also be displayed on new marketing materials for Ag Invest and prominently displayed at the Illinois State Fair, DuQuoin State Fair and the state Capitol.
