Chicago (49,285 cases) and Cook County (35,296 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,372, while Cook County recorded 1,801 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 1,168,945, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 40 to 49, with 23,547 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 62,419 were male and 66,893 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 3,443, while female deaths stood at 2,839.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 2,766 Asians, 2,766 whites, 1,784 African-Americans, 1,252 Hispanics, and 192 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
