Chicago (49,449 cases) and Cook County (35,457 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,384, while Cook County recorded 1,805 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 1,190,985, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 40 to 49, with 23,633 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 62,706 were male and 67,271 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 3,455, while female deaths stood at 2,846.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 2,770 Asians, 2,770 whites, 1,793 African-Americans, 1,257 Hispanics, and 190 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
