Sherrard Fire Protection Department responded to 20 calls in 2018 - 53.8 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Sherrard included 16 fires - six structure fires, four vehicle fires and six other fires.

In all, the department saw $165,400 in fire loss - or about $10,338 per fire.

The department also received four false calls.

The calls resulted in two civilian fire-related deaths.

The Sherrard Fire Protection Department had an annual budget of $626,860 in 2018.
