Illinois state Sen. Win Stoller (R-Germantown Hills) offered his salute to the armed services this recent Veteran’s Day holiday.
“Today, we celebrate and give thanks for the brave men and women of our armed forces who answered the call to serve and defend our nation,” Stoller posted on Facebook. “Our country's veterans have fought and sacrificed to protect our freedoms. These Americans are the truest definition of heroes.”
Stoller has also recently made it a point of taking a stand on behalf of his 37th District constituents against what he’s condemned as Democrats’ partisan handling of the state’s latest map redistricting.
The NW Illinois News has reported that Stoller is one of several GOP lawmakers who fought in vain to have Gov. J.B. Pritzker veto the maps a second time.
“By signing the maps today, the governor effectively ignored the will of the people,” he wrote in a now-unavailable Facebook post in the aftermath. “He once again signed a map that allows the majority party to pick their voters, instead of allowing the people of Illinois to pick their legislators.”
Pritzker quickly moved to sign off on the latest maps after the ones Democrats originally passed sparked allegations of unconstitutionality.
“It's not deja vu you're having,” Stoller added. “Gov. Pritzker did sign politician-drawn legislative maps. He has now broken his promise to the people of Illinois twice.”
In expressing his outrage, Stoller promoted a website where voters could likewise voice their anger to governor. The newly-elected lawmaker has also made it a point of reminding constituents that the governor signed off on the maps after pledging as a candidate to veto any maps drawn along partisan lines.
As part of his commitment to remain connected with those he represents, Stoller also recently opened a new office in nearby Geneseo, Rock Island Today reported. With his district being one of the largest geographic communities in the state, Stoller welcomed constituents to his new location on Sept. 14.
“I am beyond excited to establish this new district office in Geneseo,” he added. “This office will allow my staff and I to provide the people within and surrounding Henry County with the best possible constituent services in the most convenient way for them.”
Stoller has also thrown his support behind a campaign in Springfield that would criminalize selling guns to felons, the Illinois Valley Times reported. With Stoller as a cosponsor of the legislature, the bill would make selling or giving a firearm to a convicted person a Class X felony punishable by a prison sentence of up to 30-years.
