Rep. Dan Swanson recently took to social media to announce he had been chosen as the Black Hawk East 2023 Outstanding Alumni.

“I’m honored to receive Black Hawk East 2023 Outstanding Alumni,” Swanson wrote in a April 2 Facebook post. “BHE plays such an important role in preparing students for an agriculture career field and/or transferring for a four year degree. BHE judging teams continue to receive national awards and recognition. BHE has a lot to offer.”

According to the biography attached to the post, Swanson has been supporting the mission of Black Hawk College since graduating from college in 1986. The biography states Swanson “has been instrumental in helping Black Hawk College move forward over the years.”

As stated on the Black Hawk College website, the mission of the school is to inspire individuals, create talent and make communities stronger. The college has two Illinois campuses, one in Moline and one in Galva.

In the same Facebook post expressing his gratitude for the recognition, a reply was posted by supporter Brandon Hall, who wrote: "A BIG Congratulations to Daniel Dan Swanson being selected as the 2023 OUTSTANDING ALUMNI!!! A well deserved honor ! Thank you for all the support you have and continue to show BHE!!"

Another event that Swanson recently highlighted on his Facebook page was his attendance at the Galesburg Public Library Foundation's "Stir Friday Night" improv comedy performance.

Swanson, a retired lieutenant colonel in the Illinois National Guard, was sworn in to the Illinois General Assembly on Jan. 11, 2017. When he's not in Springfield and representing his constituents, Swanson works on the family farm with his father, his brother, his son, and his nephew. Among other roles Swanson has held include serving on the Alwood Board of Education, the Henry County Board and the Henry County Veterans Assistance Commission. As part of the latter role, in which he was superintendent, he helped veterans obtain financial assistance.
