Illinois communities have started to set their Trick-or-Treating hours as Halloween approaches. Residents are advised to check their city or village hall or official websites for the specific dates and times for Trick-or-Treating in their area.
The National Safety Council has also provided some important safety tips for Trick-or-Treaters. It is recommended that costumes, wigs, and accessories be fire-resistant. Additionally, children should have reflective tape on their costumes or bags, or be given glow sticks if they are allowed out after dark. Young children should always be accompanied by a responsible adult, and older children going out alone should have a pre-planned route and a specific time to return home. It is important to teach children to never enter a stranger's home or car and to only travel in familiar, well-lit areas with their friends. Furthermore, children should be advised not to eat any treats until they return home so that they can be checked by an adult.
In the spirit of Halloween, Senator Anderson encourages all families to have a safe and happy celebration.
