In a bid to offer more daycare scheduling options for shift workers, Senate Republicans have taken a step forward by advancing legislation aimed at providing increased flexibility for working parents.
According to Senator Jil Tracy, the sponsor of the bill, Senate Bill 3207 allows daycare centers to operate 24 hours a day, offering child care services for up to 12 hours for children whose parents work in positions with regularly scheduled shifts. The legislation includes a provision mandating a 10-hour gap between daycare visits to ensure adequate rest for the children.
The new system outlined in the bill tasks the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services with the responsibility of formulating and enforcing the necessary regulations to implement the proposed changes.
Having garnered unanimous support in the Senate on April 12, Senate Bill 3207 has now progressed to the House of Representatives for further deliberation.
