State Representative Dan Swanson has expressed his concerns following Governor Pritzker's 2025 State of the State address. The Governor presented a $55.2 billion state budget, marking it as the largest spending plan in Illinois history.
Swanson criticized the Governor's speech, stating, "I was shocked that the Governor chose to conclude his speech by comparing half the people to Nazis." He suggested that more focus should have been placed on addressing Illinois' issues and rectifying previous economic and fiscal policies.
Swanson highlighted the state's increased spending, noting, "Somehow the state of Illinois found a way to spend $2 billion more than last year, even though we were just recently expecting a budget deficit." He expressed concern over potential new taxes and budget strategies aimed at balancing this increased expenditure, describing it as "unsustainable."
Despite proposed reductions in funding for undocumented immigrants, Swanson pointed out that over $100 million is still allocated for these services next year. He stated, "This budget does not reflect the priorities of Illinois taxpayers and families," and affirmed his commitment to advocating for a balanced budget without tax increases.
