Jeff McKinley, a Rock Island County local, is running for the position of county circuit clerk, in the hopes of decreasing difficulties that residents face with filing cases and making the processes more modern -- and claiming he will cut corruption out of the department.
McKinley’s education and experience began in Rock Island County, where he attended and graduated from Rockridge High School in 1986. Following that, he graduated from Knox College in 1990, ending his education in 1994 at the University of Iowa’s College of Law.
Since his graduation, McKinley has worked in a number of positions and fields, including as the assistant attorney general from 1995 to 2011. He has since filled the position of an assistant state’s attorney.
McKinley’s campaign boasts a modernization to the current filing system, which will allow residents to electronically file. He also has hopes to reduce alleged nepotism by hiring well-qualified individuals, rather than only well-connected ones. McKinley’s campaign also states that the circuit clerk’s office has been managed by one party for more than half a century; McKinley seeks to disrupt this pattern through his own election.
McKinley’s interest in law covers a number of categories, such as child support, neglect cases and paternity establishment.
