Augustana distance runner Tanner Osing recently set a record in the 5,000-meter run for the Vikings men's program.
Osing, a senior from Havana, Illinois, ran in the event at the Drake Relays on April 27 in Des Moines, Iowa, and finished in 14 minutes, 16.76 seconds. That topped the program's former best mark of 14:21.52, accomplished by Ambo Bati in 1996. His splits in the race were 4:36 for the mile, 9:12 at the two-mile mark, and 13:44 after three miles. He ran the last 200 meters in 32 seconds.
Osing ran in the unseeded race and finished sixth. Kyle Burdick of South Dakota State University won the race in 14:00.84.
Osing's time at the Drake Relays also was more than 20 seconds better than his previous best time in the event, 14:38 on April 13 at an event in Platteville, Wisconsin.
