City of Colona Public Works Committee met Oct. 3.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

CALL TO ORDER: 5:00 p.m.

ROLL CALL: Aldermen Swemline, Jones, Feliksiak were present

STAFF PRESENT: Chris LenthPublic Works Director

ALSO PRESENT:T. J. ThompsonRock River Electric

PUBLIC COMMENTS:

➢Mr. Thompson would like to proceed with the land swap. He had the property surveyed and the City would give up.77 acres to him and as a result all property lines would be even. The City would receive an additional $5k. Mr. Thompson would cover all surveying costs and recording fees.

PUBLIC WORKS REPORT:

1.While putting in the posts for solar power they hit a water main with a post going into the ground. The City marked the water main to the best of our ability with present equipment. We had to call in outside people to repair the break. They had equipment to dig and repair the leak not available to the City. The City does not know the cost of the repair yet but the money will come from O&M Depreciation. The solar company will pay half the cost of the repair.

2.Public Works has received only one estimate to repair the front steps. It is $15k if there are footings, $12k if no footings.

3.Public Works found that the property the school recently purchased and BJ’s shared a water main shutoff. Since the school will use their property as a parking lot, a new water line and shutoff will need to be run to BJ’s.

4.The Department of Labor held an unscheduled labor inspection on September 26, 2019. The City owes the Department of Labor information on services provided to residents in the City. No major infractions were found.

5.Chris attended a meeting with FEMA to learn if the City may be eligible for flood cost reimbursements. He is hoping to get approximately $24k.

ADJOURNMENT:

The meeting adjourned at 5:50 p.m.
