ROCKFORD, IL – Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) released the following statement on the news that passenger rail service will return to Rockford by late 2027, connecting Rockford and the city of Chicago.
“Bringing passenger rail back to Rockford with direct access to Chicago is great news for families and businesses in this area and I want to thank Governor Pritzker for helping us achieve this goal,” said Sorensen. “This will make Rockford an even more attractive place to live and will help support jobs and grow the local economy. I will continue to remain a strong advocate for connecting more communities through passenger rail across Central and Northwestern Illinois, including the Quad Cities. Everyone who lives in the 17th District deserves access to the opportunities provided by public transit.”
Congressman Eric Sorensen is the first openly LGBTQ person elected to represent Illinois at the federal level and is a member of the New Democrat Coalition. He serves on the House Committee on Agriculture and the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. Prior to serving in Congress, Sorensen was a local meteorologist in Rockford and the Quad Cities for nearly 20 years. His district includes Illinois’ Quad Cities, Rockford, Peoria, and Bloomington-Normal.
