City of Moline Library Board of Directors Fundraising Committee met Jan. 25.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Call to Order

Library Board President, Regina Nelson, called the meeting to order at 2:00pm in the Library Gold Room.

Fundraising Goal/Funds Currently Committed

Herrig shared the targeted fundraising goal is $200,000. Over $87,000 has been brought in so far as a result of capital campaign letters to individuals and local businesses. The Library Board and Library Staff both plan to collaboratively contribute to be on the donor wall. More local businesses have shown interest, one is specifically looking at implementing a sensory garden, further discussion with Shive Hattery needed. Herrig shared Birdies for Charity will start in April and funding raised can go the gardens project. Plans for continued fundraising efforts such as emails, phone calls, and social media posts discussed. Herrig mentioned speaking with WHBF to further expose the project. Herrig will be requesting funds from the Moline Regional Community Foundation soon and plans to meet with Paul Plagenz, President/CEO.

Grant Updates

The T-Mobile grant was submitted and is under review. A grant was received from the Rock Island Retired Teachers Association. Herrig noted the Teens for Tomorrow grant through the Quad City Community Foundation is due at the end of the month. The American Library Association’s annual Community Engagement grant closes in early February. Herrig mentioned reaching out the Quad City Plus 60 Club and looking into opportunities with HavLife. Discussion had on other grant opportunities and adjusting the campaign display in the lobby. The committee talked about the potential for a pledge program. Various questions about the donor board came up, including a potential deadline.

Pour Bros Event

A fundraiser event at Pour Bros is scheduled for Wednesday Match 6th from 5 to 8pm. 10% of the sales for the entire day will be going to support the gardens project. Discussion had on silent auction items, prizes, games, and giveaways. Lear shared a proposed flyer for the event. Edits on the flyer were made and a final draft will be shared with Pour Bros and will be included in the upcoming board packet.

Other

Herrig and LaRoche shared ideas from the Teen Library Council including a tie-dye event. LaRoche mentioned a trivia or bingo night as other potential fundraising ideas. A meeting was scheduled for Thursday February 22nd at 2pm to continue discussions.

Adjournment

There being no further business brought before the Moline Library Gardens Steering Committee, the meeting was adjourned at 3:10pm
