City of Geneseo City Council met Nov. 26.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

Special City Council Meeting 

The Special City Council of the City of Geneseo was called to order on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at 6:30 PM, in the Council Chambers, with the following members present:  

COUNCIL PRESENT: 

Council Bob James, Council Brett Barnhart, Council Craig Arnold, Mayor Sean Johnson, Council Paula Simosky, Council Keith Kennett, Alderman Kent Swanson, and Alderman James Roodhouse  

COUNCIL ABSENT: Council Martin Rothschild  

STAFF PRESENT: Director of Finance Jamie Matthews, City Administrator Brandon Maeglin, Director of IT Garrett Griswold, Attorney Derke Price, Chief of Police Casey Disterhoft, Director of Public Works Chad VandeWoestyne, City Clerk Paige Seibel, and Director of Electrical Operations Eric Rowold  

PUBLIC PRESENT: 

1 Roll Call 

Meeting began at 6:30 pm

2 Public Comment - Agenda Items 

City Ordinance allows members of the Public to speak and give input up to 3 minutes during Public Comment, there can be no debate or action by the City Council at this time.

None

3 Administration 

3.1. Thai Town Cafe Facade Grant Approval 

The owner of Thai Town Cafe has submitted an application for a facade grant. Additionally, Golden Garden will be closing in December, and Thai Town Cafe is set to open in February. No further discussion took place during the council meeting.

Craig Arnold moved, seconded by Keith Kennett, Motion to approve a 50/50 Facade Grant under the Downtown TIF Program, up to $10,000, for Thai Town Cafe at 103 S. State Street for qualifying reimbursable expenses under the program. 

RESULT: Carried

AYES: Bob James, Brett Barnhart, Craig Arnold, Paula Simosky, Keith Kennett, Kent Swanson, and James Roodhouse

ABSENT: Martin Rothschild

3.2. Facade Grant Approval - VFW 

The VFW has submitted an application for a facade grant to install a new exterior door. No further discussion took place during the council meeting.

Craig Arnold moved, seconded by Paula Simosky, Motion to approve the Facade Grant for the Geneseo VFW, up to $3,552.50 for 50% of proposed upgrades. 

RESULT: Carried

AYES: Bob James, Brett Barnhart, Craig Arnold, Paula Simosky, Keith Kennett, Kent Swanson, and James Roodhouse

ABSENT: Martin Rothschild

3.3. O-24-17 An Increase to Number of Permitted Class A Liquor Licenses 

This would permit an increase in the number of Class A liquor licenses from 9 to 10. The new Class A license would be allocated to Gaslight Grocer and Wine Bar, which is expected to open on January 1st. No further discussion took place.

Craig Arnold moved, seconded by Brett Barnhart, Motion to approve O-24- 17. 

RESULT: Carried

4 Adjournment 

4.1. Move to close the meeting 

Meeting adjourned at 6:35 pm
