City of Colona Public Safety Committee met May 18.

Roll Call
Present: Alderman Deb Shady-Dahl, Alderman Tapscott, Alderman Mike King, Chief Swemline, also present Laura LaMantia.

Public Comments
Mayor Lack wanted to advise the police committee of his gratitude to Chief Swemline and thank him for doing an excellent job with the safety and health precautions during the Corona Virus pandemic. Mayor advised Chief Swemline was a wealth of knowledge and served as the “go to” person for information and resource person for safety equipment available through Emergency Management. Chief has kept the City informed almost daily of the latest information.
Old Business
Chief advised Officer Davila is currently doing online training at the police department while the training academy is shut down.
New Business
Chief discussed the purchase of squad cars that were approved in the budget will not be ordered until closer to October.
Chief advised the police commission approved the hiring of a police officer utililizing the lateral procedure and have advertised for this. This option will save the city money providing we receive viable applicants.
Chief advised the investigator position on the department will be filled full time once the full time officer opening is filled. Chief advised Ryan Tone has taken a position at Hampton PD.
Chief advised the golf cart ordinance will go into effect June 1,2020. Once the restrictions due to Covid 19 are lifted we will open the lobby of the police department back up for pet tags and golf cart registrations. A full packet of rules and registration forms are available at the police department.
Alderman King made a motion to adjourn, Alderman Tapscott seconded the motion. Meeting adjourned 9:45 a.m.
