At the close of the spring legislative session, several key issues remain unresolved in the Illinois House, including a significant budget proposal by Governor Pritzker. The proposed budget stands at $55 billion and may necessitate tax increases to be funded. A bill containing the budget was sent to the Senate, but specific details are still under wraps as discussions continue.

The budget process is structured around three bills: one outlining appropriations for state agencies and programs, another directing spending implementation, and a third addressing revenue sources, which this year could include tax hikes. A vote on these matters is anticipated on Saturday.

In legislative developments, Representative Dan Swanson has sponsored a bill aimed at educating healthcare providers about Amniotic Fluid Embolism (AFE), a rare but serious condition affecting pregnant women. The legislation has passed the House with unanimous support and now awaits gubernatorial approval. It mandates educational activities by the Department of Public Health to enhance provider readiness in recognizing and managing AFE cases swiftly.

The bill also requires local health departments to announce any detected cases of Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever publicly. This measure aims to improve public awareness and response to potential health threats.

Additionally, four other bills sponsored by Rep. Swanson have advanced to the Governor's desk after passing both legislative houses. These include House Bill 1149, which grants college credit for firefighter training; House Bill 1754, known as the TICK Act for improving awareness of alpha-gal syndrome; House Bill 3388 allowing certain vehicles to be designated for fire department use; and another bill making grammatical corrections in statutes related to military affairs.

Other notable news includes calls for changes to the SAFE-T Act following a tragic incident involving a missing person case, recognition of Lyme Disease Awareness Month through an adopted resolution by Rep. Swanson, warnings from Ameren Illinois about potential electricity price hikes during summer months, and updates from IDPH on sport fishing advisories as county fair season begins across Illinois.
